BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford women’s tennis team will travel to the Music City this weekend to participate in the Lady Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of Memphis.
The Bulldogs will see Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State, along with teams from Arkansas State, Ball State, Campbell, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Illinois, Southern Mississippi, and host Memphis.
The last time the Samford women hit the courts was in North Carolina State’s Residence Inn North Wolfpack Invitational, where the Bulldogs had an amazing showing. Seniors Emily White and Sarah McKey and junior Katie McMiller all took first place in each of their flights. Freshman Whitney Flescher came in second in her flight, and seniors Christie Baker and Bethany Benson and junior Anna Jackson took fifth, sixth, and eighth place, respectively, in their flights.
In doubles, Jackson and Baker won their flight title as they faced off with fellow Bulldogs Flescher and her doubles partner from Appalachian State. Also, Benson and McMiller took fifth place in their flight.
The tournament will be played on the courts at Rhodes College and starts Friday morning with two doubles rounds followed by the singles competition. Complete draws for the Lady Tiger Invitational will be available online at http://www.gotigersgo.com/.
