This time the Golden Eagles turned the tables. Tennessee Tech took the first, third and fourth games with scores of 30-22, 30-26, and 30-18. Samford was only able to walk away with the second game, 30-22.
Sophomore middle blocker Jen Powers led the team in with a .320 hitting percentage. Powers also had 14 points. Sophomore outside hitter Sara Sears was right behind her with a .279 hitting percentage, but she led the Bulldogs in three other categories. Sears chalked up 16 attacks, 43 attempts, and 18 points. Setter/Libero Courtney Gay had 38 assists and 11 digs.
“Sara Sears did a great job for us today,” said Head Coach Michelle Durban. “Also, Courtney Gay did a great job of setting and helping the outside.”
Freshman right side hitter Sheridan Stangohr posted six kills, one block solo and six block assists, and 11 points. Sophomore middle blocker Kirstein Sosnowski had nine kills and 12 points, and sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Gardner posted 20 digs and four service aces. Freshman Katie Luckman had four kills and 17 attempts, nine digs, and 5.5 points.
“Katie Luckman came in off the bench and worked hard on the outside,” said Durban.
Samford will be back in action at home when they play Austin Peay on Friday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. Match play will continue on Saturday as the Bulldogs take on
