Women’s Tennis To Compete In NC State Invitational

--- Bulldogs hope to continue good performance against tough competition ---

Sept. 28, 2006

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford women’s tennis team with travel to Raleigh, N.C., to participate in the 2006 Residence Inn North Wolfpack Invitational this weekend, Friday, Sept. 29 – Sunday, Oct. 1.

The Bulldogs will be competing with teams from Appalachian State, Richmond, Coastal Carolina, Wofford, Western Carolina, UNC-Asheville, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, Howard, Gardner-Webb, Liberty, Campbell, High Point, James Madison, East Carolina, and hosts NC State.

Samford had a good showing last weekend in the Roberta Alison Classic hosted by the University of Alabama. Although Samford ended up in the consolation bracket, one Bulldog won the bracket in her draw and a Bulldog duo claimed their consolation bracket as well.

Whitnie Warren won the consolation bracket in the Singles Orange Draw by defeating Courtney Akel of UNC-Greensboro, 6-3, 6-1. Bulldog duo Anna Jackson and Whitnie Warren won the consolation bracket of the Doubles Black Draw.

The Bulldogs had some huge wins over top Southeastern Conference players along with some hard-fought losses. Head Bulldog Coach Terri Sisk is proud of the continued success and progress her team has shown against tough competitors.

Samford is on the verge of being able to really compete with big teams like those of the SEC,” said Sisk. “I’m really excited to go to NC State and see what we can do.”
