BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford volleyball team dropped its match against Ohio Valley Conference leader Jacksonville State Wednesday night in three games. The Bulldogs fall to 6-16 overall, 1-10 in the conference.
Samford fell behind early in the first game, but was able to tie the game before Jacksonville State increased the lead to 19. The Gamecocks would go on to win, 30-12.
Jacksonville State took control of game two from the very beginning, jumping out to an early six point lead. Samford could not catch up, and the Gamecocks would win, 30-10.
Samford came out tough in the third game after the break, taking the early lead. Although the Gamecocks tied it several times, the Bulldogs would not give up the lead until Jacksonville State took a timeout. The Gamecocks came out of the break to take the four point lead on a 5-1 run. Jacksonville State would take the game, 30-21.
Middle blocker Kirstein Sosnowski led the Bulldogs with eight kills, hitting .353, while defensive specialist Sarah Gardner had 13 digs. Defensive specialist/setter Courtney Gay posted 23 assists.
Samford continues its home stint Friday as they take on Tennessee Tech. Match play is set for 7 p.m.
