Bulldog Netters Reach Finals Of Baras Classic, Good Weekend Overall

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ---- The Samford men’s tennis team advanced two netters to the finals of the singles brackets and three pairs to the doubles finals at the UTC Baras Collegiate Fall Classic this weekend.

Bulldog duo Sam Huffman and Renan Silveira made their way to the finals of the Men’s A Doubles draw to meet up with fellow Bulldogs Hank Grant and Stuart Misner. However, the final match was not played. Huffman and Silveira defeated UAB duo Bauer/Spangenberg (8-5) to get to the finals, and Grant and Misner defeated Southern Mississippi pair Frayincheaud/Mezey (8-6) to mark their place in the finals.

In the Men’s B Doubles draw, Brian Dushock and Manuel Miletic defeated UAB’s Despotovski/Weiss (8-3) to advance to the finals. However, Dushock and Miletic could not get past UAB duo Emory/Tollstom, falling to them in the finals, 9-8(8).

Silveira ousted UAB’s Tim Bauer this morning (6-3, 6-1), moving him onto the finals of the Men’s A Singles to take on Chattanooga’s Derek Stephens. However, Silveira would fall, 6-2, 6-1, to Stephens in the finals.

Dushock met Alex Emory of UAB this morning in the Men’s C Singles semifinals, but Dushock would lose, 6-1, 6-2.

The next time the Samford men’s tennis team will be in action for their fall campaign is on Oct. 13-15, when they travel to Columbia, S.C., where they will participate in the USC Fall Invitational.
