Samford Men’s Golf Finishes 15th In Francis Marion Tournament
--- Junior Andrew Villarreal finishes fifth in the tournament ---
FLORENCE, S.C. ---- The Samford University men’s golf team finished 15th in the 22nd Annual Raines Developmental Group Intercollegiate held at the Country Club of South Carolina. The Bulldogs shot 300-298-298 = 896.
Junior Andrew Villarreal tied for fifth, shooting 71-72-72 = 215 (-1). Senior Reed Davis tied for 36th shooting seven over par (79-70-74-223), senior Clint Calvert finished in a four-way tie for 62nd shooting 74-78-77 = 229 (+13), and senior Bradley Pate tied at 66th shooting 76-79-75 = 230 (+14). Junior John Turnipseed, who was playing individually, tied for 84th place shooting 78-82-76 = 236 (+20). Bobby Baird tied with Tommy Jensen from Birmingham-Southern for 93rd place shooting 82-78-81 = 241(+25).
Villarreal shot even on a par four, and David had one eagle on the day.
Samford will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26 as they head across town to play in the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate hosted by UAB.
