Women's Cross Country Finishes Second, Men Fourth At UTC Opener

Samford opened the 2006 season at the UTC Opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Samford women's cross country team finished second and the men's team finished fourth as both teams opened the 2006 season at the UTC Opener hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Friday.

The Samford women were led individually by Angela Fister, finishing fourth with a time of 11:54. Katie Almand came in 10th with a time of 12:11. Robyn DeBenedet and Jessica Van Ausdall finished just behind Almand, each finishing the race in 12:12.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs were led by Cameron Bean, finishing 10th with a time of 15:58. Bo Brawner came in 13th, running the race in 16:01.

The host school, UTC, won the event on the women's side with 20 points, while Samford was second with 51. The Samford men scored 86 points for a fourth-place finish, while Alabama won the men's race with 22 points.

Samford will return to action on Sept. 23 at the Great American Invitational in Birmingham.
