Men’s Golf Finishes First Day Of Francis Marion Tournament At Dark


--- Bulldogs sit at 15th after day one of FMU Tournament play ---

FLORENCE, S.C. ---- The Samford University men’s golf team sits in a tie with Francis Marion University for 15th place in the 22nd Annual Raines Developmental Group Intercollegiate held at the Country Club of South Carolina. Samford is one of 18 teams participating in this two-day tournament.

In day one, Samford shot 300-298-598 which is 22 over par.

Individually, Junior Andrew Villarreal is currently tied for ninth, shooting one under par (71-72-143). Senior Reed Davis is tied for 38th shooting five over par (79-70-149), senior Clint Calvert shot eight over par with 74-78-152, and senior Bradley Pate shot 11 over par with 76-79-155. Rounding out the Bulldog team is sophomore Bobby Baird with 82-78-160, shooting 16 over par.

Samford is currently behind Troy University and Jacksonville University, who are tied for first place. Behind them at third is Chattanooga, at fourth is Wofford College, and tied for fifth are Furman and Old Dominion. At seventh is Elon University; at eighth is Charleston Southern; and in a tie at ninth is Davidson College and Western Carolina. Georgia College and State University is 11th, followed by College of Charleston at 12th, Texas Pan-American at 13th, and South Carolina-Aiken at 14th. Behind Samford, tied at 17th are Appalachian State and Birmingham-Southern.

Samford will continue play at the Country Club of South Carolina tomorrow in the final rounds of the Samford University men’s golf team sits in a tie with Francis Marion University for 15th place in the 22nd Annual Raines Developmental Group Intercollegiate.
